Why reaching non-followers is the social media metric that matters
By Stevie Bramble · · 4 min read
Follower counts grow slowly. Here's why views from non-followers are the best sign your content is bringing in new customers on Facebook and Instagram.
It's tempting to judge social media by follower count. But followers already know you. Growth comes from people who don't know you yet, and Meta now shows content to them more than ever.
A real example
In the first 60 days managing a Gulf Shores real estate brokerage's Meta presence, content views rose 175% to 92,250, and 82.9% of those views came from non-followers. Page visits grew 91.5%. Followers only rose by 75, yet thousands of new local people saw the brand.
How to reach more non-followers
Post short-form video consistently, open with a strong hook in the first two seconds, use local topics people search for, and reply to every comment quickly so the platform keeps showing your content.
